Job Mission / Objective

Responsible for supporting activity that will ensure that statutory responsibilities of the Compliance function are carried out with due care, skill, and diligence.

Impact on Business Results
Ensuring no financial impact on business in terms of fines or penalties imposed by regulators die to compliance breaches.

Main Responsibilities:
 

  • Support the development of Compliance Framework

  • Support the maintenance of the applicable Regulatory Universe

  • Draft, update and maintain Compliance Risk Management Plans ('CRMP's') for the business as required

  • Support and contribute to the development of a risk-based monitoring plan in line with regulatory requirements and business needs

  • Contribute in the development of comprehensive risk-based compliance monitoring plans

  • Play a key part in the delivery of the annual approved compliance monitoring plan

  • Support the identification of all amendments to legislation, draft legislation and new legislation that impact or could impact compliance universe in collaboration with senior members of the team, make relevant recommendations in terms of changes needed

  • Maintenance of the non-compliant items of monitoring interventions; internal audits and regulatory/supervisory reviews, to ensure the timely closing of findings.

  • Perform delegated monitoring interventions in accordance to the annual compliance monitoring plan

  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of regular and applicable compliance related reports to various Regulators, the Group and business network, as well as other relevant internal or external partiesContribute by assisting in drafting (pertaining to new legislation) and maintenance of existing training material, to ensure compliance awareness culture is established as part of the Compliance process.

  • Develop and implement the necessary awareness initiatives to continuously sensitize the business, by conducting workshops and training sessions

  • To assist fellow compliance officer's / team members in achieving project or operation goals and reporting deadlines;

  • To Identify and extract any possible synergies that exist between internal audit and to develop/foster a co-operative relationship which would be to the advantage of the business;

  • General compliance administrative duties

  • Support and contribute to the maintenance of the Compliance folder

  • Ongoing advisory support for all Compliance related matters that is reasonably required from time to time

  • Participate on industry-specific associations, standing committees, work groups and other interest groups in the financial services industry, where necessary

Job Requirements:
Academic Knowledge:

 

  • Com / LLB qualification; and/or

  • Appropriate professional qualification from a reputable educational institution or professional body; or

  • Appropriate accredited compliance related course endorsed by the Compliance Institute

  • Successfully completed FAIS RE5 (and preferably RE1)

  • Post graduate diploma in Compliance Management (advantageous)

  • Member of the Compliance Institute


Work Experience:
 

  • 2 - 4 years' compliance experience in the Financial Services / Banking industry

  • 2 years' FAIS experience for a Cat 1 License

  • Understanding and ability to assess compliance risks

  • Ability to interpret legislation

  • Understanding of and ability to implement monitoring methodologies

  • Good presentation skills (Ability to provide awareness training)

  • Ability to provide advice and guidance to Business

  • Ability to compose compliance related reports

  • Good understanding of key regulations

  • Computer literacy essential - Word; Excel and Power Point
