Salary:           R 58 000 - R 68 000 Per Month dependent upon experience

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

 

A Sonographer performs diagnostic procedures using sonographic equipment. Their duties include preparing patients, explaining the exam, and performing the procedure. 

 

DESCRIPTION OF ACCOUNTABILITIES:  

 

Diagnosing and monitoring various conditions, such as pregnancy, and diseases, such as cancer. Working directly with patients and using sonographic equipment to record images of the motion, shape, and composition of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses and look at unborn fetuses in prenatal care.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Manage and operate the daily operations and supervision of the radiology ultrasound departments

  • Explain ultrasound procedures to patients, record relevant medical history, and reconcile and collect required data.

  • Bookings for radiography procedures, etc.

  • Picking up/receiving job cards for radiological duties,

  • Assisting patients with medical aid authorisations for radiological procedures,

  • Radiology duties - Ultrasound scan of the patient, report findings to Radiologist, etc.

  • Assisting Radiologists with procedures as required,

  • Receiving patients from reception,

  • Perform technical procedures requiring independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative doing general and vascular exams.

  • Work with other technologists and radiologists to perform confident exams with quality images

  • Assisting patients from reception to change rooms and various scanning/x-raying rooms and back again,

  • Positioning of patients for procedures to be done,

  • Quality assurance of procedures done,

  • Contributing to the efficient running of the department

  • Administrative duties as required - answering telephones, making bookings, following up on reports, printing and labeling x-ray results/scans, etc.

  • Capture optimal images to complete detailed written reports for radiologists to interpret

  • Other ad hoc duties reasonably expected by Chief Radiographer and the Practice.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

 

  • National Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography or relevant degree and relevant Ultrasound qualification.

  • Sonographer qualification

  • Min Two years experience
