We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Legal to oversee the legal operations within our consumer division.
The Head of Legal - Consumer Division (Financial Services) is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic legal counsel and guidance to the organisation's Consumer Division operating in the financial services sector.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure legal compliance, protect the organisation's interests, and support the division's operations.
The Head of Legal will monitor and advise on legal risks, oversee contract negotiation and review, manage litigation and disputes, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. By doing so, they will uphold the organisation's reputation and ensure adherence to laws, regulations, and industry standards in the financial services sector.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Performance Areas:

Develop and implement the legal strategy and framework for our Consumer Business considering the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the emerging technologies and evolving regulation in the financial services/payments fintech sector.

Advise the senior Management and Executive team on legal matters, providing guidance and insights to support decision making and mitigate legal risks.

Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and review of contracts, leases, agreements, and legal documents to protect the organization's interests and mitigate risks.

Provide guidance and support to the legal team and other departments in contract interpretation, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.

Identify and assess legal risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.

Manage and oversee litigation and legal disputes, including working with external counsel when necessary.

Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements in the organisation's industry.

Liaise with regulatory and industry bodies as well as government agencies on compliance matters and inquiries.

Manage and develop a high-performing legal team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as HR, Finance, Sales and Operations etc., to provide legal guidance and support on cross-functional initiatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience

LL.B Degree or relevant degree from an accredited law school and be an Admitted Attorney

An active license to practice law in the jurisdiction where the company operates.

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a legal role, preferably in the financial services industry or technology sector with a focus on Consumer Markets.

Knowledge of applicable laws and regulation, including financial services laws, data protection and, and privacy.

Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating complex agreements and contracts as well as lease agreements.

Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative and technology driven environment.

Experience in managing legal disputes and working with external legal counsel.

Proven track record in managing legal risks and ensuring compliance in a dynamic and rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
